After 18 days of continual swell today has brought a layday on the point but decent surf is being had at a secret spot........
Yesterday afternoon was epic with the swell appearing to build and I was amongst it with only 6 other people sharing a "moment" of solitude and 200 metre long rides, truly a great moment in time. That was yesterday and today brings other wonders.
Todays photos include amongst other things a great old pub photo, in the tradition of country style. I couldn't help but think how many great fights must have taken place on the footpath outside this little gem--that is a weird thought.
The sun is out and the stand up brigade are out amongst it riding the small swell in peace. One good thing about SUP is the ability to see a shark coming at you from a greater height and depth, so I guess you would be more prepared for how much it is going to hurt.
Music
Not that your 6P reporter has any ability or some may say taste in music, however, I discovered a band called the Stereophonics the other day. They are 3 Welsh lads who have been around for a fair while and have escaped my music radar. Worth a listen if you have iTunes then have a test run.
They are quite unique in their ability to go from Foo Fighters type intensity to almost classic elevator music. They have a couple of covers that are equal to or better than the originals. Handbags and gladrags is one of these gems originally sung by Rod Stewart and the Faces ( prior to Rod being Rod Stewart).
One song that gets me in though is "Maybe Tomorrow"- excellent.
Surfboard Review
The Boards that appear below are for good times, remember, surfing for good times.
Our 6P test rider believes this is a great board for conditions up to about 4ft. Very easy to paddle and even easier to ride. The width in the nose allows early entry to the wave and for skimming through thick sections where other boards may require energetic pumping. This particular model is 6'4"
Despite its unconventional use of foam making it thick and wide, by using the back area many a good cutback was demonstrated buy our test rider.
While this board has similar attributes to the one above it has a slightly wider nose and flyer in the tail. much shorter at 5'10" it is a little beauty according to our test rider. Once again the use of generous foam allows for fun.
I was so impressed I asked our shaper to build one to me specifications with ample foam. This little number is great riding from the tail, has very little if any rocker but a double concave in the tail. At 6'4" its about as small as I can go until I lose about another 5kgs in body weight.
This is the "Capacitor" being held by Ulysees Moore.
A 6'4" speed machine with the tell tale Fish look. A great one for speed without top to bottom manouvering.
All boards are fun machines and designed to keep you in the game and away from the longer logs until you just can't paddle anymore.
Thanks goes to "Tractorman" surfboards for allowing us to test ride their machines and to be involved with the process of making these fine specimans.
Should you wish to purchase or enquire about Tractorman surfboards let me know and I will be pleased to hand you over the master at Tractorman. He is based in Cronulla for your convenience and uses Creso for testing and shape intelligence.
The country Pub - ah you can taste the beer.
Words that provoke thought
Children are very similar to adults, except they tell the truth.
Aloha.
