All the senses were in fine tune with mother Earth and I recall that I was actually breathing and feeling the air and warmth of the sun on each piece of my skin. It was a perfect day to venture North to a beautiful and truly spiritual place for me. A place I first visited in 1970 and learnt to respect surf and simple living.
Just pure surf and no distractions.
While getting over my hamstring mishap, yesterday I bought the latest STAB magazine and was blown away. A review appears below.
Simplicity:
(observations and opinion not necessarily correct)
- No fashion to follow. What other thing in life is there that we dislike so much we have to change it every six months?
- Food. When it is grown in your yard you eat it slower and enjoy it more.
- Sun and sky. It takes time to actually feel and look at it.
STAB Review:
STAB is one of those magazines that is quite contradictory at times. An issue can be bought and it is full of rubbish and trendy fashion ala Northern Beaches poofters. Then they can bring out an issue with the most amazing photography and incredible stories. To me, its not consistent. But when its on its on, and the latest issue almost pulls the lot off. The fashion section is my personal dislike, but thats just me.
I'm not sure whether it is on purpose or by accident, but the backbone of this addition is a story on the Bruce Irons aftermath. The aftermath of Andy's tragic death, some may say too young and the pieces Bruce is battling to pick up including the welfare of Andys child Axle and wife.
Eerily, is the story of Ozzie Wright and his bohemian parents, but with equal potential tragedy. The death of his father too early due to depression and depending upon your interpretation a man not able to fulfill his dreams. Ozzie is living his dreams. But he is worried....but you read it.
So we have two stories equal in power and somehow connected. I for instance did not know that Andy actually died in 1999 and was brought back to life in hospital........but he didn't want to come back. Rick, Ozzies father never quite got to totally realise his dream but missed his son doing exactly that....live his dream.
Congratulations to STAB for such sensitive and excellent non judgmental reporting.
My words on this are pretty simple. There are people out there that see the world through different eyes. They are not necessarily drug addicts or alcoholics, some use these things as a self medication and no one understands. The two people so eloquently described in STAB were different, thats all. Demons ate them up.
Go buy it and look after each other xx.
The road North. I love these old places.
Who is your star, or is just shooting?
The ute the pub and the stories inside.
Yep.
Freaking Elephants?
Words that provoke thought
"There's a pure idea in every mind
waiting to be acted on
yesterday we had to leave behind
climbing up that hill never stops
I'd prefer to have you near to me
making the shape that used to be
How am I going to sleep without you?"
(Tim Finn.)
Im memory of Andy and those who have been misjudged.
Aloha.
