6Ps is lucky enough to mix with a whole lot of people. Move amongst them and listen to their stories, some wise and wonderful, others fool hardy and dangerous.
It may be a coincidence that the fool hardy and dangerous stories are told at the local drinking establishment (s), but never the less they all go down well with a cold beer. The bar in Star wars has nothing on some of the north coast bars, no make up or costumes in these places. Just real live freaks! I love 'em......says milo.
Anyway thats all sounding a bit judgemental which is not the case, just a laugh at life and its characters, some serious, and some who live with their tongues planted firmly in their cheeks (or others.....).
As the North coast is primarily a surfing destination travellers and visitors are always welcome. Most surfers who visit, especially Crescent Head are of a "significant" age and are mostly Mal riders, stand up paddle boarders or for those with the hip replacements or knee problems, boogy boarders.
It is inevitable that at the end of the day the old surfers visit a drinking hole in town, either the club or the tavern. As the 6Ps team are known to indulge in the odd beer, we get to listen to some great conversations.
Usually there is one wise old surfer who is in the centre of the conversation........and within about 2 schooners of the finest ale.....the words pop out................
IN THE BEGINNING.
You see it appears that just about everyone over the age of about 55 was at the forefront of surfing when it begun. Yes folks, "I was there, we had the long boards and I did the best drop knee turn you have ever seen, until I got tackled playing Arthur Beetson in the '75 grand final and that was the end of my knee. thats why I'm riding my boogey board."
(For those still bothered reading this, if you are 55, it was about 1968 that short boards started there influence. That would have made you around 11 years of age. Are you getting my drift?)
IN THE BEGINNING.
"We used to come up here all the time! Me and bugsy booth! remember bugsy? What a great bloke. I wonder what ever happened to him? They say ( they being?) he would have been Australian champion, although I was just that little bit better than him at the time."
( Bugsy Booth - far right in the above picture)
LET ME BE THE FIRST TO CAST THE STONE
In other words my biblical friends we all see the past differently, and it is quite ok to do so. If it wasn't for some of these older surfers who come and visit we wouldn't have a tavern or a club. We wouldn't have much at all........except maybe less drop ins on waves.
I am also guilty of seeing the past differently and perhaps are little bit exaggerated. Although I was really really a great surfer, still am if you ask me. (just don't ask anyone else)
A ROUNDABOUT WAY
This has been a very long winded way to say, we love visitors who see this part of the coast as more than just a point surf, more than a quick trip to have a surf fix. The north Coast has much more to offer.
Within an half hour drive either side of Crescent Head is, Art,Culture, tranquility, music and much more.
So, we are not giving you the finger..........
As a matter of fact 6Ps has now added more pages to its blog (see tabs at top of page). While we are flat out finishing "13" our new movie, we are also going to inform our irreverent readers of the things happening in and around Crescent Head. driven by the Community (see our objective on the Community page).
It will take us some time to gather and start posting all the information, but we do hope you will find it worthwhile and maybe come and visit to enjoy just a little bit more than the best surf in Australia.
Aloha
