Todays post features the Easter crowds in Crescent Head and a true but shocking story on hairy legs.
Hairy Legs and Spiders
One of the strange things about the human body is its ability to grow hair, change shape, lose hair and other parts and operate like a factory.
It also has a central operating system called the brain, which detects senses, imagines wonderful things, has a thought side and a creative side, amongst a whole lot of other things.
Now that I have basically given an underlying picture of the human, let me completely compromise myself by describing a strange "out of sync" connection between my brain and my body.
It begins with things touching my legs and without looking at what it actually is, my brain tells me it is a spider. Not just a friendly little spider or even that it may be something else, my brain just tells me its the most venomous deadly spider ever known to humans.
My reaction to this is immediate, no checking, no brushing with the hand to get rid of the offending "thing".......... just immediate panic!
Let me relate this actual event that took place some years ago...........,..........
I was in the front yard of my house busily cleaning up the garden to create a new rockery from scratch. In the way were old pieces of timber loosely scattered throughout the undergrowth. Dressed in my best Jamie Drury attire, consisting of shorts, work boots, and a fashionable blue singlet I also wielded a hammer to knock the offending timber out out the way.
I was wielding that hammer like a knight in armour about to take on the entire Roman Empire. I was in the zone.......brain and body working in unison to destroy the enemy.
Then...................
As I was belting the timber and wading my way through the grass to attack the head of this proposed rockery I felt something on my kneecap, just touching lightly, nothing heavy, just a light touch. PANIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The brain immediately told me it was a Funnel Web, a deadly bloody funnel Web. It was attacking me to bring my plans down. No way was this Funnel Web ever going to let me disturb its neighbour hood.
Out of Sync...........Without looking, I immediately lifted the hammer high in the air and brought it down like the final sword penetration in an enemy soldier right onto my kneecap to destroy this spider trying to kill me.
First of all I felt nothing........then when I saw the offending piece of grass innocently caressing my kneecap the pain set in.
Lets just say there was no more gardening for a few weeks while my kneecap recovered.
This now brings me up to date with the background of this strange loose connection between brain and body.
As some of you may be aware a little over 9 months ago I left the corporate world behind me to pursue a stress free life, surfing, filming and enjoying a simple life. As far as my brain is concerned I can tick all objectives off. Truly satisfying.
Amongst a whole lot of other things one of the requirements of being a corporate citizen is to dress in a manner that is respectable and meets standards. For me, it was a suit. This meant long trousers and the covering of my rather athletic but bandy legs. The end result of this attire over the 40 years of work left my legs rather hairless due to the rubbing of the material on my super athletic legs............(loud clearing of throat)
Now that I am living a free lifestyle all I wear are boardshorts exposing my legs to the unfortunate world to see. So in the time it takes to bake a baby, I have baked hair back onto my legs! Yes I have hairy legs again. The masculinity is liberating. The look is........well lets leave that up to you...........
Strangely, some hairs are much longer than others. By no means is it an even growth. Some are whispy and long and others are the length found around the nether regions, making my hairy legs look like a cross between a hippy and a 1970s playboy centre spread. ( the author acknowledges the trend of the nether regions in todays world is different).
So this brings us back to spiders and hairy legs.
For about the last month I have been walking around, particularly in my backyard, continually hitting the ground in blind panic. Yes the brain is at it again. I have been flaying my arms, throwing myself on the ground, brushing my legs to escape the SPIDER WEB!! Not just a harmless spider web but a web set by some sort of human eating spider that is offended that I have invaded its territory.
Afraid to enter my backyard I sat inside for days trying to work out a way to bomb my yard with a nuclear bomb and not disturb the neighbours.
Then............a couple of days ago, when I placed my glasses back on, I was standing observing the break at the point and felt that spider web sensation on my legs, with so many people about I could not hit the ground and start what would appear as a seizure. With all my possible self control and brain/body syncronisation I looked down at my legs...............................and there it was..............my hairy legs simply reacting to the breeze. Yes, the 1970s hair was proudly waving in the breeze just like dandelions in a garden, gently swaying to the rhythm of the breeze.
It was a proud moment.
The Easter Crowds
Crescent has had epic surf up to and during the Easter break. While its great to see people enjoying the beauty and surf in and around Crescent I have left it alone until they return to their homes.
The past couple of days has seen gradually decreasing swell but a pulse is due this afternoon.

6Ps and Vimeo
Just a quick explanation of Vimeo and 6Ps. Vimeo is the site used by 6Ps to share quality High Definition films. Blogger cannot import Vimeo, it can only import YouTube which does not have HD.
I have produced Goolowah which was on a previous post but from the YouTube site thus the quality is not the best. It is now on Vimeo in HD and is what I believe my best so far.
I have provided a link on the side of this page to put you through to my Vimeo site. It amy take a little time to load but I would appreciate you viewing and placing a" like" on those films you genuinely like.
Goolowah appears on the site as "Untitled" but is my latest addition.
Finally-One more night
I have had some reaction to my video "One more Night" appearing on my YouTube site.
Let me clarify this rather serious film clip...........1. I have always liked the song. 2. It is not directed to anyone in particular. 3. For once it is not about surfing. 4. It was done to experiment with light. 5. It was done to see how well I could put a single figure in a film to express the words in actions.
But I do love you.
Aloha
