New and Old Collide
Its pretty weird how throughout life things change but no matter what happens fashion and trends always regurgitate. Some fashions and trends are a disaster and always will be. An example of that is the mullet haircut, although at 6Ps we think it is a cool haircut cause you can be in business at the front and party at the back!
Sometimes when the trend/fashion do come back around again they may look the same but actually very subltle and sophisticated improvements on the original have been done.

The girl above is excited about her fashion statement, and from 6Ps point of view we are very happy for her too................

So......this brings us to the surfing aspect of change and regurgitation. Way back, there were long boards that were 50% rails, thick as ya dick and had "D" fins. Made of balsa and eventually foam and fibreglass they stayed that way for awhile. There were tough guys that belted up anyone or everyone, but they weren't surfers (ies) they were rockers or bodgies

With every Foam Symmetry Magazine release 6Ps explores the old/new collision with a magnifying glass.

The reason for this is that one of the older staff members used to ride long boards and then was in the middle of the short board revolution, including things like trackers and long railed, foam nosed, narrow tailed dogs. Not all bad, but it was experimental and some short boards worked and others didn't. But it sure was a lot of fun riding these experimental models.

So it leads us to the subtle things happening in todays 7' trackers, and other short board revolutions being seen ridden at the moment. In the latest Foam Symmetry magazine there are some excellent articles on the difference of todays boards compared to the originals.
The look may be the same as yesteryear but the performance is way better due to the knowledge obtained over the years in between. Better materials, more knowledge has produced real performance "retro" boards today that are not the stock standard Kelly Slater competition boards.

This is not to put a wedge between any surfing genre, it is only meant to understand that the boards being ridden are ALL good.

At 6Ps we may be seeing that surfing is taking another real change, but without having itself on. Real performance boards across all genres. Surfing styles is a completely different subject..........

Are we at a surfing crossroads or are we taking highways in the same direction?
